DL E&C announced on the 19th that its key executives, including CEO Sang-Shin Park, met with the president of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Busan to discuss cooperation on energy and infrastructure projects. President Marcos recently visited Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
During the meeting, the primary agenda focused on DL E&C’s cooperation on energy and infrastructure projects pushed by the Philippine government. To achieve carbon neutrality and address rapidly growing electricity demand, the Philippine government welcomes potential cooperation in the field of nuclear power plant construction.
Prior to this, DL E&C signed a business agreement with Meralco, the largest power company in the Philippines, to cooperate on the introduction of SMRs (Small Modular Reactors) in the country. SMRs are next-generation nuclear power plants scaled down to about one-hundredth the size of traditional large-scale nuclear power plants. Unlike conventional nuclear power plants, they do not require vast sites and offer high safety, allowing them to be built near industrial complexes and other area with high power demand. As power demand surges in the AI era, SMRs are attracting attention as a carbon-free energy source capable of meeting this demand.
DL E&C’s relationship with the Philippines began in 1993, when it won a contract for constructing a gas desulfurization plant of the Philippine National Oil Company. DL E&C holds the industry’s largest track record on construction projects (15 projects) in the Philippines. In 2015, DL E&C completed the RMP-2 project (Petron Refinery Master Plan Phase 2), the largest-ever plant project in Southeast Asia, ordered by Petron, the Philippines’ largest oil refiner. The project was awarded at approximately KRW2.25 trillion and remains the largest-ever contract won by a Korean construction company in Southeast Asia.
“DLE&C possesses unrivaled technological prowess and a proven track record in the energy sector,” said Sang-Shin Park, CEO of DL E&C. “We are confident that we are the optimal partner for the energy projects the Philippines is pursuing.”
